Dāna

Generosity Is
the First Step

A tradition of giving, unbroken for 2,500 years.

The Spirit of Dāna

Free, as it has
always been

Vipassana has always been offered as a gift of Dhamma — sustained by the gratitude of those who have benefited. Courses worldwide are run on a donation basis, so that anyone who sincerely wishes to learn can do so, regardless of financial background.

"When you give with a pure mind — freely, joyfully, without expectation — that giving itself becomes a meditation."

How Dāna Works

Three Principles

Freely Given

Teachers and organisers receive no salary. Every donation is used only to maintain centers, build new facilities, and preserve the teachings.

Not a Fee

Donations are not a payment for services rendered. They are an expression of appreciation — and a way of supporting future students.

For Future Students

Your contribution pays for the next person's food, accommodation, and teaching — someone who may be changed by the same experience that changed you.

Where It Goes

Sustaining the Teaching

Centers & Facilities
  • · Meditation halls — built and maintained
  • · Accommodation for students
  • · Kitchen and meals
Preservation of the Teaching
  • · Translations and publications in all languages
  • · Research and archives
  • · New center development worldwide
How to Contribute

Give as
you are moved to

Those who have completed at least one 10-day course may choose to donate according to their means and volition.

For current methods of contributing to specific centers or to the Global Vipassana Pagoda, please refer to the official pages of the respective trusts.

There is no obligation. No expectation. Only an open hand.

Support a Center

"Dāna is the first step on the path. Before equanimity, before wisdom — there is generosity."

All contributions are voluntary.
No amount is too small — or too large.

Every contribution, however small, keeps
the doors of Dhamma open
for future generations.
